The opening scene with the death of Lal due to regional disputes and the transition of his son in the village, visualization of the songs, the actor's mannerisms and yet a number of factors in the film purely reminds us of Ameer's classic. Inevitably, we could see the concordances of another trend-changing work, Paruthiveeran, in the base plot of the film. She is the best character artiste in and around the industry not without a reason. And needless to quote, Saranya's phenomenal performance is a vital contribution, helping the film to attain some quality. The film is neatly paced with humor, romance and sentiments, striking a perfect balance for a commercial film. When everyone was awaiting Sasikumar's next directional venture (after his trend-setting film subramaniapuram) the director, started to substantiate his acting career with consecutive successes. The director successfully delivered his script, meeting the expectations of the crowd. The film is swift with its comic sequences and the audience could pick it up though it was scattered into pieces and widely plot- abberative. Kutti Puli is probably the least exciting and engaging of Sasikumar starrers.Kutti puli Rating: 2.5/5 Action Drama Debut director Muthaiah clearly making a mark with a clean commercial film. It’s a grotesque gory climax that puts one off, where Puli’s machoism and heroism make way for some misplaced sense of women-empowerment!

The director pitches in the mother-sentiment, going overboard with it in the climax. But in Kutti Puli, they are few and far between. Sasikumar-starrers have been laced with humour and fun moments. There are a couple of amusing moments when Saranya, after learning that her son’s life is in danger, goes to various people whom Puli was involved with and asks for their forgiveness. For it was never depicted how influential the rowdy was or what clout he wielded. Vendetta is best served cold, they say, but here Murthy takes an inordinate amount of time to get back at Puli! Bharati’s distressed father, an engineer, approaching Murthy out of the blue to get him a job transfer, doesn’t jell. It gives space for a bunch of youngsters who were hanging out on the fringe in the earlier part, and for Murthy, a rowdy, who becomes Puli’s bete noir in the latter part. The screenplay meanders in the second half and nosedives, never to recover. Lakshmi Menon’s Bharati seems like an extension of her role from Sundarapandian. Though Sasikumar’s role is ambiguously etched, he takes each scene as it comes and tries to fit into the mould. Puli’s wooing of Bharati reminds one of a similar scenario in Sundarapandian. So when he talks of unknown enemies and all those affected by his violent acts, we wonder what he is talking about. We, like Bharati, get to see this side of him. Puli is a do-gooder, a ruffian with the proverbial golden heart. But Puli, realising that he had his father’s traits, is determined to stay single, till he sets eyes on Bharati, a new girl in the neighbourhood. Worried that her son will tread the same path of violence his mother (Saranya) makes various attempts to get him married.
